Configuring Browsers for IsoStar

Previous: Obtaining the IsoStar Client Software

In order to view scatterplots in a Web browser you must configure it to use the IsoStar client as a helper application for files with a MIME type of chemical/x-isostar.

For Windows users, the IsoStar Client installation package should configure Internet Explorer and most other browsers automatically. You may be prompted to select which application to open the IsoStar scatterplot with, in which case there should be an option to open it with "IsoStar.document". To avoid this prompt check the "Do this automatically from now on" box.

UNIX users will need to configure their web browser manually so that the IsoStar scatterplot file is associated with the IsoStar client helper applicaiton. This procedure varies from browser to browser, but the important thing is that files with the extension ".istr" and/or the MIME type "chemical/x-isostar" are set to open with the run_isostar script located in the bin subdirectory of either the CSD software installation directory or the standalone IsoStar client installation directory. Information about configuring Firefox is available. If you are not using Firefox and have problems configuring your browser, please contact CCDC Support.
